  • DaimlerChrysler has taken the wraps off a truck that’s sure to be on the shopping list of anyone involved in construction work – the all new Sterling LT7500 8x4.

“The LT7500 is the shortest conventional BBC on the market at 101” (or 2565mm) and with its low tare, outstanding weight distribution and tough drivetrain it has a hard-earned reputation as a powerful, reliable and no-nonsense workhorse, particularly on construction sites,” said Gary Wheatley, Senior Manager, Freightliner/Sterling Sales.

“The 8x4 offers a load-sharing twin steer for more payload and excellent manoeuvrability, so we’re very confident it’s a truck that will do well in the market.”

However the star of the Sterling stand at the 2007 Queensland Truck & Machinery Show is the Sterling LT9500 Premium, powered by the latest Caterpillar C15 ACERT engine which meets the new ADR 80/02 emission regulations.

The C15 pushes out 550 horsepower and 1850lb/ft of torque with a huge 1,500 square inch cooling system.

“We’re very excited to have this truck on the stand as it represents the very latest technology from Caterpillar. What we have here is EPA07 cooling technology just released in the US market, which has been totally re-engineered to meet our Australian requirements. This marks a triumphant return of CAT to the Sterling brand,” Gary said.

Also on the stand is a new Sterling LT9500 - fitted with the fuel-efficient Detroit Diesel MBE4000 engine – and another LT9500 Premium sporting the latest generation 14 litre Series 60 Detroit engine. The Detroit Diesel MBE4000 has an acknowledged reputation as a fuel economy leader with cost conscious operators – the 12.8L, six cylinder in-line turbo charged inter-cooled diesel engine features full electronic management and is available in three power outputs, 350 hp, 410 hp and 450 hp.

A Detroit Diesel Series 60 ADR 80/02 with ‘engine mounted’ radiator/CAC cooling module will also be on display on the Sterling stand. This engine will also be available in Sterling’s LT9500 Premium.
