The Queensland Truck and Machinery Show, 14–17 May, is shaping up to be an exciting event, with Isuzu announcing it will display two compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered trucks and one hybrid model, as part of its 16 vehicle display.
Alternative fuels will be a hot topic at Australia's longest running truck show – held at RNA Showgrounds in Brisbane – with Isuzu once again proving it is at the forefront when it comes to designing environmentally friendly technology.
Isuzu Australia Limited (IAL) Director & Chief Operating Officer, Phil Taylor, expects the two dual rating factory-backed CNG models – NPR 250/300 and FSR 700/850 – and the hybrid NPR 400 to attract a lot of attention from visitors to the show, as they offer truck drivers and operators a more environmentally friendly alternative to diesel-powered trucks, with lower running costs.
"We have CNG in abundance here in Australia, so we don't have to import it, as we do diesel. CNG is an inexpensive fuel, and, unlike diesel, prices have remained fairly steady for some time," Mr Taylor said.
"A major benefit of CNG is obviously cleaner emissions. Compared with vehicles that run on diesel, CNG-powered vehicles emit very little particulate matter (PM) and produce significantly lower emissions of other harmful pollutants.
"CNG is also considered to be safer than diesel in the event of a spill or accident, as it is lighter than air and quickly disperses into the atmosphere when released."
According to Mr Taylor, CNG is becoming increasingly popular around the world in response to high fuel prices and environmental concerns.
"In Europe and South America in particular, CNG is becoming a popular and viable alternative fuel. In Australia, several government organisations and local councils have adopted a policy of only purchasing CNG-powered trucks, buses and other vehicles," Mr Taylor said.
Along with Isuzu's CNG and hybrid trucks, a broad selection of new and recently released conventional models will also be on display across the range. On show will be six N Series trucks, including two cab chassis, two tippers, a Traypack and a Tradepack – part of Isuzu's popular ready to work range.
Four F Series models, two Gigas and the newly released FXY 1500 model will complete the impressive Isuzu display.
The New Generation Isuzu trucks adhere to a minimum emissions rating of EuroIV. FX and Giga models meet Japanese Long Term 05 (JLT05) standards, which exceed EuroV ratings, making Isuzu the cleanest overall Japanese conventional diesel-powered truck range on the Australian market.
According to Mr Taylor, safety and comfort features across the entire New Generation range will also impress attendees.
"The SRS driver's airbag is standard on all models, along with driving aids such as ASR (Anti-Skid Regulator) and HSA (Hill Start Aid).
"The heavy duty FX and Giga models on display feature a top-of-the-line ISRI 6860 air suspension seat, cruise control, a CD multimedia unit and automatic climate control air conditioning," he said.
There will also be a selection of Isuzu branded fluid products, static displays and an assortment of genuine parts and accessories available for viewing.
The Brisbane Truck Show is one of the most significant events on the Australian transport calendar, according to Mr Taylor, and is the perfect location to unveil Isuzu's innovative CNG models.
"The Brisbane Truck Show has gained an international reputation, and IAL is committed to this event, as it is an ideal opportunity to make direct contact with thousands of truck operators and business decision makers."
