Costa Logistics' expansion plans
Thu, 11 Mar 2010 22:37:04 +1100 - Transport & Logistics News

Specialist third-party logistics provider Costa Logistics will expand its national footprint after leasing a temperature controlled storage site in suburban Brisbane.

The vacant site at Morningside will add 3,500 square metres of chilled and temperature controlled warehousing space to the company’s national footprint.

Costa Logistics already operates 14,000 square metres in Eastern Creek in Sydney, 15,500 square metres at Derrimut on the outskirts of Melbourne, 6,500 square metres at Jandakot in Perth and 3,500 square metres in Devonport in Tasmania.

Costa is also involved with a 44,000 square metre chilled distribution centre in Parkinson, 24 kilometres from the Brisbane CBD and a 45,000 square metre facility at Truganina in Melbourne in a joint venture under the Polar Fresh brand.

Costa Logistics chief operating officer Geoff Norman said the leasing of the Brisbane space was part of the company’s national growth strategy.

“This is a major move for Costa Logistics and will further cement our position as a high-quality and high-tech perishable foods national warehousing solutions provider,’’ he said.

Costa Logistics takes over the Morningside premises on April 1 and anticipates that the acquisition will result in the creation of up to 40 jobs within the company over the next three years. The additional jobs would include personnel transfer from smaller companies outsourcing their logistics business to Costa Logistics.

The Queensland sites will be operated using technology employed at all Costa Logistics’ sites – the Manhattan warehouse management system software and the SCI client data interface tool.
