When Hino Australia launched its Hino 500 Series Standard Cab earlier this year, it also introduced an all-new dashboard-mounted smart multimedia system. Now, Hino Australia says it will make the system available across its entire range of light-, medium-, and heavy-duty trucks this year. The system comes standard with a reversing camera and with access to a curated store of apps. Hino is also offering a truck-specific GPS navigation system and safety-enhancing, dual-channel digital video camera recorder with four-way camera display as optional features.
An App World
According to Daniel Petrovski, Hino Australia manager of product strategy, access to bespoke apps via the Multimedia system will help drivers stay connected. “The world we live in is a connected one, and the smart Multimedia system enables that,” Petrovski says. Companies or individuals can add to or customise the Multimedia system via apps designed to save time and money while maximising driver and fleet safety. Further, while the app store now includes offerings for weather information, entertainment, petrol station locations, and more, in the future, the store will include bespoke dispatching apps for simplifying vehicle operations and enhancing productivity and efficiency.
The Multimedia system includes an Android-based 6.5-inch touchscreen device integrating AM/FM/DAB+ digital radio, Wi-Fi connectivity, and Bluetooth. While the DVR system enables uploading and viewing recorded footage for safety purposes, the optional GPS navigational system factors in various truck characteristics, speed limits, bridge clearances, real-time traffic advisories, and more to provide the most efficient routes. Hino says a three-year option for quarterly issued over-the-air map updates for the system is a first for the Australian truck industry.
Complementing the smart Multimedia system is Hino’s Traq telematics, which provides such real-time tracking and vehicle operational data as operating time, fuel usage, driver safety, and fleet monitoring that’s accessible via the Hino Traq online portal.
