When Nick Rozhkov worked as a builder, he saw problems with shipments. Late deliveries, poorly unloaded materials, and operators with little regard for either safety or Chain of Responsibility obligations were just a few of the issues he frequently encountered. The industry needed experienced delivery drivers who also knew how to safely navigate a construction site.
Rozhkov decided to do something about it. He worked as a courier for a year to fill the gap in his knowledge of the transportation and logistics industry before starting Nick’s Cranetrucks SA in Dry Creek, South Australia in 2013.
The business has grown from a single second-hand European truck to a whole fleet of trucks, four of them Isuzus, including a GXD 165-350, two heavy-duty FYJ 300-350s, and one Isuzu prime mover, the CXZ 240-460. Rozhkov credits the use of Isuzu trucks for the growth of his business, but plans to keep the business local to South Australia.
“My drivers and I work eight hours daily, and we spend half the day or more on the road,” says Rozhkov. “I don’t want to spend any more hours travelling, and don’t want my drivers to, either. I want them to be able to go home after work, safe and sound.”
About The FYJ 300-350
The trucks have a GVM of 30,000 kilograms and 45,000 kg GCM with 257 kilowatts of power at 2,000 rpm and 1,422 Nm of torque at 1,400 rpm. That extra power has given Rozhkov’s business the ability to take on more jobs that they previously didn’t have the capacity to do.
“The FYJ 300-350 is the best of the best! After buying the FYJs, my business experienced a huge boost, straight away,” Rozhkov says. “The FYJ is the ultimate work horse. It’s comfortable and it’s also easy to drive. We spend a lot of time delivering loads in the city and the FYJ navigates the streets very well.
Each Isuzu truck is also equipped with a Fassi crane to enable Nick’s Cranetrucks SA to deliver a large range of cargo from general freight to odd-sized loads, including bricks, pallets, timber, steel frames, scaffolds, and anything else that can be safely loaded and restrained. They also offer a Manitou forklift service.
All-In On Isuzu
Rozhkov has been so impressed by the Isuzu trucks, especially the FYJ, that he decided to replace the other trucks with Isuzu models as well with the goal of running an all-Isuzu fleet. “Reliability is very important in the work I do, and that’s why Isuzu will always be No. 1 for me.”
