Salad Makers, a fresh produce supplier based in the Gold Coast, recently added a new IVECO Stralis ATi 6x2 truck to its all-IVECO fleet that already features other Stralis models. The company first purchased an IVECO vehicle in 2012 and has used the brand exclusively since then. “We currently have three IVECO Stralis models,” says Belinda Adams, general manager of Salad Makers. “This latest truck replaces another older IVECO – given the driver acceptance, the comfort of the trucks, and the fact that we’ve never had any issues with them, it was a logical choice to again select a Stralis.”
Up To The Task
The new IVECO Stralis ATi features a Cursor 8 engine, which produces 360 horsepower and 1,500 newton metres of torque, and a 12-speed Eurotronic automated manual transmission. It also has a refrigerated body used to transport lettuce, herbs, and salad mixes. In addition to performance, comfort is a top priority for Salad Makers, largely because the trucks tend to encounter a number of starts and stops during operation. The rear Electronically Controlled Air Suspension (ECAS) plays a part, but IVECO also includes several other features for ease of operation and driver comfort.
“As well as being comfortable and easy to drive with the automated manual transmission, air suspension seat, and climate control, the trucks have a good-size sleeper (2,020 x 620 millimetres), meaning that if the drivers are out and there’s a delay in loading, they can rest for an hour or two,” explains Adams. “The Stralis models have everything we need in a truck and the drivers really like them. The driver of this latest truck has thanked me so many times for getting him the new one.”
Another reason Salad Makers sticks with the IVECO is brand is the service provided by Brisbane IVECO and the service and parts outlet Gold Coast (Arundel) IVECO, both of which are a short distance away from the company’s routes. “Given the sensitive nature of the produce that we transport, it’s good to know that if we did have issues with a vehicle, help wouldn’t be far away,” says Adams. “Brisbane IVECO operate a 24 hour call-out service and Gibbs Truck & Trailer is close by.”
