Scania is releasing 50 limited-edition trucks to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its first V8 engine. Each of the trucks is an R 650 V8 6x4 model with a Ghost White paint colour, Ebony Black gloss accents on the chassis, trim, and wheels, and gold V8 stripes and decals. The limited-edition vehicles also have leather-lined cabs, numbered plaques, black leather heated seats with red stitching, special V8 steering wheels also with red stitching, electric roof hatches and deflectors, premium sound systems, and much more. The 50th anniversary models are up for order now and Scania plans to deliver them in early 2020.
Paying Homage To Power & Performance
“The Scania 50th Anniversary Edition recognises the huge role the V8 engine has played in the consistent growth of Scania as the brand that delivers high horsepower with low revs and low fuel consumption,” says Dean Dal Santo, director of truck sales for Scania Australia. “Scania is the sole supplier of V8 engines for the heavy vehicle market in Australia. Our V8 range starts at 520 horsepower, a figure that would have been all but unfathomable when the initial 350-horespower V8 was launched, and reaches as high as the flagship 730-horespower V8, which is the most powerful on-highway truck you can buy in Australia, complete with 3,500 newton metres of torque.”
The State Of The V8
Scania has continued to innovate on its initial V8 and one of the newest entries in the company’s next-generation 16.4-litre V8 family of engines is a 650-horespower, Euro 6 model that launched alongside Scania’s New Truck Generation. Scania says “out of approximately 650 components that make up the entire engine, 200 are completely new.” The goal of the new V8 engines is to improve fuel efficiency, reduce service times, increase overall quality, and offer a more contemporary design. Scania says that V8 engine-powered trucks make up “around half of the more than 1,000 Scania trucks sold in Australia each year, making Australia one of the more important markets for the V8 range.”
