A tipping tray truck is aptly named: It has a tray body, or flatbed, that can act as a tipper or dump body using a hydraulic cylinder. The tray might have a flat top, short sides, or dropsides that can fold down or be removed. Tipper tray trucks are commonly used to transport dirt, rock, cobblestones, sand, and other materials when a tipper truck with a larger capacity isn’t required.
Features & Extras
Tipper tray trucks with tailgates have a variety of ways they can open them. The tailgates may automatically lower themselves while tipping, or have a manual release or air release. Many are two-way tailgates with hinges on the top and one or both sides, allowing the user to swing them open the best way for the application.
Some trays with sides have removeable partitions to keep cargo separated. A few trucks have combination trays that are half flat top and half tipper. Some combo tray trucks have a crane, tank, or other equipment installed on the non-tipping section of the tray.
Tarps
Many tipping tray bodies with sides come with retractable (or wind-out) tarps to cover materials being carried. The tarps can protect the payload from the elements and prevent it from blowing out during transport.
