    G.James buys its 100th Hino

Hino, a Tokyo, Japan-based manufacturer of commercial trucks and diesel engines, is shining a spotlight on G.James Glass & Aluminium, an Australian manufacturer and big proponent of Hino trucks. The company, which just celebrated its 100th anniversary, announced that it has taken possession of its 100th Hino truck, a 500 Series Wide Cab with the chassis mated to a specialist glass-carrying A-frame.

    Welcome to the fleet

G.James is a growing company that currently employs 2,000 workers at 35 locations, so it comes as no surprise that the company would need more than a few trucks that can be trusted for their reliability and versatility. G.James manufactures components for everything from skyscrapers to residential buildings, such as windows and doors, scaffolding, park and street furniture, and specialist aluminium castings. The Hino trucks in G.James’ fleet are configured for a variety of tasks, including as specialised glass carriers, flat beds for transporting aluminium products, and medium duty trucks for urban deliveries and logistics.

G.James purchased its first Hino truck in the 1970s, and according to the company’s fleet manager, Ian Malmstedt, these trucks just keep getting better. “One of the main reasons why I always prefer a Hino is that I’ve never replaced a Hino engine (which I have with other brands), so reliability is a big thing.”

The 500 Series truck features a Hino J08 6-cylinder engine capable of generating 206 kilowatts of power and 883 newton-metres of torque. Its Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system produces fewer harmful particulates, and the truck is capable of operating longer on less fuel compared to previous models. Other benefits include a new turbo charger, revised water pump and cooling fan, and a common-rail fuel injection system.

A growing company like G.James isn’t about to stop at 100 Hino trucks. Since the firm received that 500 Series Wide Cab FM2628 XXL wheelbase model fitted with an Allison automatic transmission late last year, the company has submitted an order for seven more Hino’s.

If you’re looking for a new or used Hino trucks, you’ll find many options for sale on TruckWorld.com.au.
