Waste Truck Collection Systems

Posted On: Wednesday, 11 February 2015

Waste collection is a critical process within Australia. It is ideal to eliminate the amount of waste produced, but understandably, this is a limited solution to waste management. Therefore, effective waste collection and management solutions are needed to ensure that the waste does not cause harm to our environment.

The Waste Management Hierarchy scales the 7 actions that can be taken in the process of waste management. From most preferable to least, the actions are:
    • Avoid
    • Reduce
    • Reuse
    • Recycle
    • Recover
    • Treat
    • Dispose
NSW currently have a Waste Less, Recycle More initiative. It is a five-year program that aims to fund the transformation of waste and recycling within the state. Various programs, including numerous grants, are available to support this transformation.  Click here to find out more.

Waste collection ranges from domestic to industrial. There are differing systems in place to ensure that the waste is collected in the most beneficial way, suited to the source of the waste.

    Rear Lift Waste Truck:
Rear Lift Waste Trucks are ideal for lightweight waste that is small to medium quantity. This generally covers waste from households, offices, retail outlets and restaurants. This type of collection system is for more frequent collection of waste that tends to be odorous. This process:
    • is used in tight, limited access areas
    • uses containers that are 120L-240L and 660L-1100L
    Front Lift Waste Truck:
Front Lift Waste Trucks are best suited for a collection of variety of wastes that are able to be stored onsite. This generally includes hotels, factories, workshops and shopping centres. This process:
    • is cost effective
    • is user friendly
    • uses containers that are 1.5m3-6m3
    Roll-on Roll-off (RORO) Waste Truck:
RORO Waste Trucks are suitable for the collection of commercial and industrial waste. It is intended for the collection of large volumes of waste that has been generated and is stored onsite. The types of sites the RORO collection system is suited for includes building sites, multi-business complexes and hospitals. This process:
    • is cost effective
    • is an efficient system for bulk waste
    • uses containers that are 2m3-40m3
There is an abundant of types of waste and their collection and management systems. Together, we as Australian s can help reduce the impact of our waste through following the Waste Management Hierarchy and ensuring that our waste management collection systems are always up-to-date and functioning correctly.
