Scania’s G-series and R-series have been awarded five stars in Euro NCAP’s haulage assessment, with a 96 per cent score for crash avoidance. The results reflect Scania’s continued focus on visibility, driver support, and advanced driver assistance systems in long-haulage and regional transport operations.

The Euro NCAP Haulage assessment covers:

    • Scania R-series 4x2 tractor
    • Scania R-series 6x2 rigid
    • Scania G-series 4x2 tractor
    • Scania G-series 6x2 rigid

Scania’s G-series and R-series are made for different long-haulage and regional transport needs but share the same safety approach: supporting the driver through good direct vision, comfort, control, and advanced driver assistance systems.

Euro NCAP’s haulage sector focuses on heavy vehicles in long-haul and highway-oriented operations. To enhance safety in these environments, Scania’s R- and G-series have SSCC (Speed Sign Cruise Control) and CSCC (Curve speed Cruise Control), adding safety in the driver support systems, especially in combination with SSA (Safe Stop Assist). The AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking) and the VRUBS (Vulnerable Road User Brake System) strongly contribute to the score of 96 per cent for the trucks in Crash Avoidance.

“Safety in long-haulage starts with supporting the driver. Visibility, comfort, driver assistance, and vehicle control all contribute to safer operations. The G-series and R-series show how Scania adapts these strengths to different transport assignments, while keeping the driver-environment familiar,” says Lars Gustafsson, Head of Trucks, Scania.

Euro NCAP highlighted the R-series for its solid performance in Safe Driving and Collision Avoidance, including optional camera monitor systems that improve front corner vision and reduce driver workload. It also noted the R-series’ broad range of crash avoidance technologies, including AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking) performance that supports avoidance of collisions with other vehicles, including those with only two wheels, as well as people.

The G-series was recognised for its balanced safety performance. Euro NCAP described it as a safe all-rounder when specified with the appropriate safety equipment. Its lower cab, deep windows and low belt line support direct vision in mixed transport environments.

Euro NCAP also gave the City Safe Award to both the G- and R-series. This adds to the five-star results already achieved by Scania’s L- and P-series, showing how the modular system can support strong safety performance across the cab range.

“Since the introduction of Euro NCAP's Safer Truck programme, Scania has consistently pushed safety forward cross-sector in the transport sector and is continuing to encourage customers to buy the safest options and technologies available. We look forward to working with Scania on safety development way into the future,” says Matthew Avery, Director for Strategic Development, Euro NCAP.

The G- and R-series are integrated within Scania’s modular system. This means that drivers recognise the layout, controls, and working environment across the Scania range, supporting familiarity, efficiency, and comfort in daily operations. For customers, vehicles can be specified for the right assignment, with the safety systems and cab configuration that best match the operation.

“Euro NCAP’s assessment reflects the increasing expectations placed on heavy vehicles by customers, transport buyers, cities, and society. Safe trucks are essential for everyone who shares the road. We provide vehicles and systems that support the driver, reduce risk, and help customers operate safely and efficiently,” says Gustafsson.

The result underlines Scania’s focus on safety across the applications where the G-series and R-series are used. For customers, the benefit is a familiar driver environment, matched with safety systems and cab specifications that suit the assignment.
