Truck Tip: Hazards and Visibility at night
Posted On: Wednesday, 4 November 2015
It is always more dangerous driving a truck at night than during daylight hours. Some points you can take into account to reduce any unwanted incidents could be:
- Adjusting your vehicles headlights to the right height, this will prevent your light glaring into other vehicles or Trucks.
- Remember to dim your high-beams before reaching a crest or curve. Truck mirrors don’t have anti-glare positions like our light commercial vehicles do.
- Spotting animals before they surprise you. Your headlights may reflect in the animal’s eyes, resulting in a reflector like indicator that they are there. It could allow enough time to slow down and prepare to break.
- Keeping your windscreen oil-free to keep your visibility high.
- Rest, rest and rest. Get plenty of rest before your journey, pull over for short rests and/or naps throughout your journey and rest more once you have reached your destination.
