Mazda introduces new Australia Exclusive BT50 truck design

Posted On: Monday, 23 April 2018

Mazda recently partnered with EGR Group to create a BT-50 utility truck design that’s exclusive to Australia. The newly refreshed BT-50, which will go on sale beginning in May 2018, represents the most significant update to the line since it launched in 2011.

One major change to the exterior of the truck was to take away some of the curved edges and instead go for a more straightened-out front-end layout. This, according to Vinesh Bhindi, managing director of Mazda Australia, gives the vehicle a stronger look that Mazda thinks Australian customers will appreciate.

“The utility segment is a huge priority in Australia and for Mazda, we’re always looking to improve and enhance our product offering, to remain competitive, and appealing to our customers,” said Bhindi in a news release. “This upgrade gives the BT-50 a stronger and tougher bearing, which we know Australians look for in a ute.”

    Visual upgrades

Mazda opted for straighter lines with the new BT-50 design, which you’ll notice immediately when you see the squared off bumper, the horizontal lines running along the grille, and the lower intake, which also now sports a skid plate. The company also added some standout fog light surrounds to give the front end more contrast.

Bhindi sees these changes as crucial to helping the BT-50 make a louder statement in a particularly crowded and competitive market segment. Expect to hear a lot more about the Mazda BT-50 in the coming month, including equipment options and pricing, as we get closer to the May 2018 release date.

    More Mazda BT-50 Details

The BT-50, which can handle payloads of up to 1,389 kilograms, is available in a single cab, freestyle, or dual cab configuration, and each model is available as a 4x2 or 4x4. The dual cab model offers even more options with the XT Cab Chassis as well as the XT Pickup with 16-inch alloy wheels and the XTR Pickup with 17-inch alloy wheels. In addition to the new Australia-exclusive design, the BT-50 series also offers quite a few customization options to make it your own, including tyres, bed covers, nudge bars, bull bars, ladder racks, and side steps.
