Meet the autonomous all electric HAVAL SUV
HAVAL Motors Australia plans to unveil its first fully autonomous, fully electric SUV at Auto China Beijing, running through 4 May. Set for release under its luxury brand, the Wey X will, according to HAVAL, deliver L5 autonomous driving performance. From an engineering perspective, this is the best possible on a scale from 1 to 5 as defined by the Society of Automotive Engineers. What the L5 rating means exactly is that the Wey X should mirror the driving performance of a highly trained driver, including in situations where the vehicle must navigate dirt roads and foul weather.
Technology to minimise accidents
The Wey X will work with existing vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) technologies, currently available in the transportation network. By combining these technologies with the vehicle’s own autonomous driving intelligence, the Wey X can both identify and avoid potential risks on the road. As of this writing, HAVAL was keeping most of the technical details to itself pending the vehicle’s debut at Auto China Beijing.
Biometric interface
Among the high-tech features we do know about is the Wey X’s full biometric identification system. This enables the vehicle to recognise its driver, and takes the place of traditional keys and buttons used for making changes within the vehicle. For example, registered users will be able to create their own custom settings for seat adjustments, music settings, and navigation.
