Ford Ranger Raptor to be available in October

Production has officially begun for Ford Motor Company’s Ranger Raptor, which will be the first Ford Performance truck offered in Australia. Introduced in March 2018 at the Bangkok Motor Show, the Ranger Raptor is Ford’s first high-speed, off-road performance truck manufactured in the Asia-Pacific region. Ford is producing the truck, which combines Ford Performance features with the Ranger’s “renowned off-road” abilities, at its FTM (Ford Thailand Manufacturing) plant in Rayong, Thailand.

    Ultimate Ranger

Ford expects to start making deliveries of the Ranger Raptor in Australia in October. Calling the truck the “ultimate Ranger,” Ford ASEAN President Yukontorn Wisadkosin says the Ranger Raptor’s “bold appearance and extreme, off-road performance features” represent a “new and distinctive breed of truck for the region.” Previously, Jamal Hameedi, Ford Performance chief engineer, said the Ranger Raptor is “like a motocross bike, snowmobile, and an ATV rolled up into a pickup truck.”

Available in five colors, the Ranger Raptor will come equipped with Ford’s new Bi-Turbo diesel engine paired with a 10-speed transmission to offer 157 kilowatts of peak power and 500 newton metres of torque at just 1,750 rpm. Other standard features will include an increased ride height, a wider track, and front and rear FOX shock absorbers. The vehicle will also feature a new Watt’s linkage rear suspension with coil-over rear springs for increased rear-axle lateral stability and an in-vehicle Terrain Management System (TMS) offering six performance modes: Normal and Sport On-road options, as well as Grass, Gravel/Snow, Mud/Sand, Rock, and Baja Off-road modes.

    Get Smart

Among the smart technologies packed into the Ranger Raptor are an auto-dimming rearview mirror, active noise-cancellation system, navigation system, SYNC 3 multi-touch display with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, HID projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, LED fog lamps, a high-speed off-road durability performance front bumper, and 17-inch alloy wheels featuring all-terrain BF Goodrich KO2 285/70 R17 tyres.

New Ranger Raptors will come standard with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty as well as Ford’s Service Price Promise, Loan Car Program, Auto Club Membership, and other Ford benefits.
