Nissan supports 2018 AP&ES Games with Navara and Pathfinder fleet
Nissan Australia will serve as the exclusive motoring partner for the 2018 AP&ES (Australasian Police and Emergency Services) Games, providing the event with a fleet of Nissan Navara ST Dual Cab and Pathfinder vehicles that officials will use before and during the games. Based globally in Yokohama, Japan, Nissan offers more than 60 models for sale across the Nissan, Infiniti, and Datsun brands.
The competition
Held biennially over seven days just south of Perth in Mandurah, Western Australia, the games will run from October 28 to November 3. First responders and other emergency services workers will compete in a host of games, including AFL 9s, basketball, cricket, cycling, equestrian events, a fire truck pull, golf, netball, softball, and numerous other individual and team sports.
Competitors taking part in this year’s games, the 17th overall, will originate from 10 countries and include police, ambulance crews, fire brigade members, SES (State Emergency Service) workers, customs and protective services employees, A&E (accident and emergency) nurses, St Johns Ambulance crews, Royal Flying Doctors, and other service providers. The games, which are open to any serving, retired, or volunteer member with eligible law enforcement and emergency services agencies, are designed to “maximise participation by promoting the physical and mental strengths of competitors.”
A popular ute
Nissan Australia Managing Director Stephen Lester says the games present a fantastic opportunity for Nissan to support “the extraordinary men and women from our law enforcement agencies and emergency services.” Lester also pointed out that the “tough Nissan Navara” and “popular seven-seat Pathfinder” provide strong, able performance that is “synonymous with the men and women competing at the Games.”
Nissan claims the Navara, launched in February, is one of Australia’s favorite utes. Packing a 2.3-litre intercooled twin-turbo engine that produces 140 kilowatts of power (188 horsepower) at 3,750 rpm, the Navara ST Dual Cab 4X4 features satellite navigation with 3D mapping, a reverse camera, 7-inch integrated colour display with touch screen, and a leather-accented steering wheel. The Navara also includes an electronic rear-diff lock and a 4WD system that lets drivers select 2WD, high-range 4WD (4H), or low-range 4WD (4LO). Additional amenities include VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control), BLSD (Brake Limited Slip Differential), ABLS (Active Brake Limited Slip), and BA (Brake Assist).
The Nissan Pathfinder, meanwhile, is available in entry ST, mid-spec ST-L, and range-topping Ti grades. The vehicle is powered by a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine with 202-kilowatt power (271 horsepower) and includes the exclusive Xtronic Continuously Variable transmission in your choice of two-wheel or four-wheel drive. The available hybrid option comes with a supercharged 2.5-litre petrol engine that produces 188-kilowatt power (252 horsepower) and pairs with a 15-kilowatt (20-horsepower) electric motor. Other features include Intelligent Emergency Braking with Forward Collision Warning, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, a Bluetooth hands-free phone system, audio streaming with voice recognition, rearview camera with predictive path technology, rear parking sensors, and an 8-inch touch-screen colour display.
