Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi hits new sales goal for first half of 2018
The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance recently revealed that it sold a record 5,538,530 vehicles from the beginning of the year through 30 June. Demand rose across the board, including with pick-up trucks, SUVs, crossovers, and hybrid-electric vehicles. Popular vehicles during this time included the Renault Clio, Captur, and Scenic models; the Nissan Note, Serena, X-Trail, and Qashqai models; and the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross and XPANDER.
“Our member companies continue to lift unit sales in multiple markets, reflecting our brands’ competitive and attractive offerings,” says Carlos Ghosn, chairman and chief executive officer of Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi, in a press release. “This strong sales performance in the first half of 2018 shows we are on track with the forecast we set in our Alliance 2022 mid-term plan.”
Sales breakdown
Breaking it down by individual company, Renault sold 2.1 million vehicles, which was a record for both Renault and Dacia; Nissan sold 2.8 million vehicles, including models from the Nissan, INFINITI, and Datsun brands; and Mitsubishi sold 616,648 vehicles after the launch of its new Eclipse Cross in over 60 countries and other models expanding into new markets.
There was quite a bit of growth for Renault and Nissan in the electric vehicle category as well. In fact, Renault hit 21.9 percent of market share in the European electric vehicle market with the help of its ZOE and Kangoo Z.E. models. The Kangoo Z.E. alone has 38 percent market share in the electric light commercial vehicle category. Nissan sold more than 47,000 LEAF electric vehicles. Mitsubishi also had a strong showing with its Outlander model and held onto its place as the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle market leader.
Country-by-country breakdown
The alliance as a whole sold most of its vehicles in China, followed by the United States and France. Renault sold most of its vehicles in France, followed by Russia and Germany. Nissan sold most of its vehicles in the United States, followed by China and Japan. Mitsubishi sold most of its vehicles in Indonesia, followed by China and the United States.
