ATA & ALC Hold 2018 Supply Chain Safety & Compliance Summit
The Australian Trucking Association and Australian Logistics Council recently held their 2018 Supply Chain Safety & Compliance Summit, which took place on 5-6 September. More than 300 people attended the event, which is particularly significant because it will be the last industry event to take place before new Chain of Responsibility provisions are added to the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) at the beginning of October. One of the goals of the summit was to educate people on the policy changes to policy to make sure that all of the attendees will know how to stay in compliance and follow proper safety procedures.
Learning Experience
The core of the event centered on several keynote addresses that stressed the importance of using new technologies to protect both heavy truck drivers and others on the road, making safety a part of company culture, and ensuring drivers focus on health, both mental and physical. The ALC’s and ATA’s Master Code was also a major topic of conversation. It serves as a series of guidelines that can be used by companies in the trucking industry to manage risks across the board, especially when it comes to Chain of Responsibility issues.
Topics Of Discussion
A wide range of issues were covered at the summit, including collaboration throughout the entire supply chain with regard to safety, streamlining the auditing process, ensuring company executives fully understand the Chain of Responsibility, removing the stigma from mental health issues in the trucking industry, and many others. Many high-profile speakers were on hand to deliver these messages, including Hon. Michael McCormack MP, deputy prime minister and minister for transport, infrastructure, and regional development, and Hon. Luke Donnellan MP, minister for roads and road safety for Victoria.
