Fuso Shogun 510 Offers Power & Fuel Efficiency For Sydney Contractor

JMT Civil decided it needed to go a different direction when looking for a truck to handle work on compact jobsites in Sydney. The vegetation management and demolition contractor already owned a fleet of conventional trucks, but jobs around the Sydney metro called for something with a bit more manoeuvrability. Fuso’s Shogun 510 and its high-visibility, cabover design and 510-horsepower (375-kilowatt) engine have been a perfect fit.

“The main thing is the manoeuvrability of the cabover and the excellent visibility that will really help our drivers getting in and out of compact sites in the city, but the fuel efficiency of the 13-litre is also a real positive,” says JMT Civil Director Joel Taylor.

    Hauling Heavy Equipment

Fuso Shogun 510 is well equipped to haul the heavy equipment and loads JMT Civil regularly transports. The truck’s gross combination mass (GCM) is 63 tonnes (69 U.S. tons) and the gross vehicle mass (GVM) of 26 t (28.5 U.S. t). The Shogun 510’s high-power Daimler OM471 six-cylinder engine produces maximum power at 1,600 rpm and the full 2,500 newton-metres (1,844 pounds-foot) of torque at just 1,100 rpm. When operating at 800 rpm, the Shogun’s engine is still able to deliver 86% of its maximum torque. Fuso offers the Shogun 510 as a 6x4 prime mover or rigid, and all options feature a 12-speed automated transmission. Daimler’s EcoRoll system is equipped to help save fuel, and Taylor says the Shogun 510 is “considerably better” on fuel than the rest of his firm’s fleet on similar jobs.

    Safety First

Work in Sydney’s city centre makes safety a priority for JMT Civil. The Fuso Shogun 510 includes many advanced technologies to safely respond in traffic and protect pedestrians. Features like Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEBS) and Active Attention Assist (AAA) help the Shogun 510 make streets safer for all users. The latest version of AEBS on the 510 combines camera and radar technology to better detect pedestrians and allows the truck to automatically stop in the event a driver does not respond.
