With a manufacturer warranty of five years or 500,000 kilometres (310,685 miles), Fuso’s Shogun 460 is backed with the support Robbo’s Sand and Truck Hire prefers for a vehicle operating in quarries. “One of the trucks I was shopping it against only has a 12-month warranty, so there is a big difference,” says owner Alec Creasy. The new Shogun 460 is slated for demolition cartage services, and the Wagga Wagga firm optimised the vehicle for this rugged task by adding a body and tipper trailer made from Bisalloy steel. The configuration is heavier than an aluminium equivalent by 500 kilograms (1,102 pounds), but the steel body and tipper trailer offer a rugged surface that will better withstand hauling cartage. When combined with the Shogun 460, the steel body configuration allows for a payload of 12.5 tonnes (13.7 U.S. tons).

    Power To Haul

Available as a 6x2, 6x4, or 8x4 rigid, as well as a prime mover, the Fuso Shogun range is well-suited for construction applications. The truck is equipped with Daimler’s OM470 engine, which produces 460 horsepower (335 kilowatts) and delivers the full 2,200 newton-metres (1,623 pounds-foot) of torque at just 1,000 rpm. Fuso’s latest 12-speed automated manual transmission is also onboard, providing smooth performance with heavy loads.

“The gearbox is nice and the performance is excellent. Fully loaded it will just go beautifully up through the gears, it doesn’t carry on at all,” says Creasy. He also appreciates the tipper’s manoeuvrability: “It can turn really tight, which is very helpful in some of the sites we are getting in and out of.”

    Safety Features

Across the Shogun range, Fuso provides a wide range of advanced safety technology. With the Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEBS) and Active Attention Assist (AAA), Shogun heavy-duty trucks monitor both the way ahead (using camera and radar camera technology) and the driver to help prevent accidents. The latest version of AEBS on the Shogun 460 allows the truck to automatically stop in the event a driver does not respond. The upgraded safety technology combines with existing Fuso safety technology like the Lane Departure Warning System, Electronic Stability Program, and Hill Start System to assist drivers in all types of situations.
