Farlow Transport began as a single-van bulk newspaper delivery business, but has expanded in the more than 20 years since to include general freight haulage, and the firm’s fleet of Iveco vehicles has grown apace over the last several. Five years ago, Farlow purchased its first Iveco, a Daily van, and now owns the Daily, three Stralis ATi 360 rigids, a 6x4 ML140 Eurocargo, and its latest addition, a brand-new X-Way AS Highway B-Double.

    Iveco All The Way

“Our relationship with Iveco all began with the Daily van,” says owner Phil Farlow. “Compared to a cab-over cab chassis, it was much better to work with—it was easy to get in and out of; a lower chassis height made it easier to load and unload and it still provided a generous 4-tonne payload, so there were no worries about being overloaded.”

As Farlow Transport has expanded, the company has invested in several additional Iveco trucks and vans. After its purchase of the Daily 70C, Farlow Transport acquired an Iveco 6x4 ML140 Eurocargo, followed up by the three Stralis ATi 360 rigids. “Our drivers absolutely love the Stralis—there’s never a complaint,” explains Farlow. “The AMT is smooth and you hardly get any engine noise—we’ve got 360hp and 1500Nm, it’s perfect for the metro and regional work they’re doing, and spending eight hours behind the wheel is easy. We’re also getting good fuel consumption.”

As such, Farlow’s choice for a flagship long-haul truck was obvious. “Given our track record, there was no reason to look any further than Iveco,” says Farlow.

    The Newest Iveco

Iveco’s X-Way is available with 8.7-, 11.1-. and 12.9-litre diesel engines with 330 to 570 horsepower (246 to 425 kilowatts) and 1,300 to 2,500 newton-metres (1,033 to 1,844 pounds-foot) of torque. The X-Way configuration selected by Farlow Transport on its AS Highway B-Double includes a 550 HP (405 kW) engine with 2,500 N-m (1,844 lbf-ft) of torque. Iveco’s Highway B-Double variant is available in low and high roof versions. To simplify highway operation, the Highway B-Double includes Iveco’s Hi-Tronix 16-speed automated manual transmission (AMT). This quiet gearbox offers efficient gear ratios for road conditions.
