Ram Trucks Australia Produces 20,000th Right-Hand Drive Truck
Ram Trucks Australia reached a major milestone early this February, producing its 20,000th right-hand drive truck since establishing a manufacturing relationship with Ram Trucks in the U.S. as of 2013. All Ram Trucks Australia are international-spec vehicles to offer customers a truck that’s uniquely coded for Australia and New Zealand, meeting design rules for full-volume certification.
“Ram is one of our best-known and strongest brands in the U.S. and I am really proud to see it here in Australia,” says Carl Smiley, chief operating officer, India & Asia Pacific at Stellantis. “The Ateco Group are great partners to have in this project—the quality of right-hand drive trucks is testament to the teamwork between those on the ground here in Australia and those back in the U.S.”
Ram 1500 Crew Models
Ram Truck Australia’s right-hand drive pickup trucks start with the 1500 Express Crew and Warlock Crew Cab models. The 1500 Express Crew is equipped a 4x4 crew cab and a 1.7-metre (5.6-foot) cargo tub to enhance functionality and serve as a workhorse when transporting materials and crew. The Warlock has a similar crew cab chassis but offers more aggressive styling with the Ram Rebel grille and sports hood, as well as Ram Rebel front/rear bumpers and fender flares. A powerful 5.7-litre Hemi V8 engine powers both Ram 1500 crew models, producing 395 horsepower (294 kilowatts) and 556 newton-metres (410 pounds-foot) of torque.
Ram 1500 TRX
The milestone truck, built at Ram Truck Australia’s Melbourne Manufacturing Facility, was a 1500 TRX with a 6.2-litre V8 Hemi engine. For the TRX series, Ram upgraded the truck’s components to withstand desert heat and rough sand environments. For example, the TRX features five skid plates and the suspension is tuned for off-roading with Black Hawk e2 Performance Shocks and 2.9 m (9.5 ft) of ground clearance.
