SIXT Adds 45 Iveco Daily 35S Vans To Commercial Vehicle Rental Fleet
Vehicle rental company SIXT has added 45 Iveco Daily 35S vans to its fleet, which includes a large number of commercial trucks and vans. Launched roughly 14 months ago, the company has dozens of locations across the country. The new Daily vans will help meet increasing demand for long-term rentals of pick-up delivery vehicles. The vans are powered by Euro 6-compliant Iveco 2.2-litre turbodiesel engines rated for 136 horsepower (101 kilowatts) and 350 newton-metres (258 pounds-foot) of torque.
“From a specification standpoint, the Daily offered an extremely close match to what we seek in a van,” says Ian Moore, SIXT national commercial fleet manager. “The vehicles we select need to be practical and flexible to suit varying final-mile delivery duties, and must also align with SIXT’s broader requirements around safety and emission performance. The Daily meets stringent Euro 6 emission levels and is also well-equipped from a safety standpoint—it’s important we can provide these benefits to our customers as well as other road users.”
Safe & Comfortable
SIXT spec’d the vans with a Hi-Matic eight-speed fully automatic transmission, which has Eco and Power modes. The vans, which provide 12 cubic metres (424 cu feet) of volume, also include such safety features as SRS airbags, an Advanced Emergency Braking System, and Iveco’s ESP9 program. ESP9 is a suite of nine stability control technologies that includes anti-lock brakes, an electronic stability program, drag torque control, and hill hold control, among others.
The latest Daily E6 series are also available with 3.0-L direct-injection intercooled diesel engines with Variable Geometry Turbine or electronically controlled VGT (e-VGT) technology that are rated for either 180 HP (134 kW) and 430 N-m (317 lbs-ft) of torque or 210 HP (157 kW) and 470 N-m (347 lbs-ft) of torque. Customers can also opt for a conventional six-speed synchromesh overdrive manual transmission.
“Users of the Daily will typically spend long hours at the wheel each day and often in city areas where there’s traffic congestion, so it’s vital that we chose a model that was comfortable and easy to use,” Moore says. “With the full automatic transmission, a long list of driver appointments, and car-like seating position, the Daily is simple to drive; access to the cabin and load space is also good, which makes it less tiring for drivers who are regularly getting in and out of the vehicle to make deliveries.”
Green-Minded
SIXT already operates one of the country’s largest electric passenger vehicle rental fleets, and has commercial-fleet electrification in its sights. The new Iveco eDaily may very well prove a fine fit. Available in van, cab, and crew cab variants, the emissions-free eDaily can provide owners up to 50% savings on maintenance costs, Iveco says.
“We’re well aware of the eDaily model and its availability in Europe and know that the range is also slated for launch in Australia later in the year,” Moore says. “On paper, these models would meet a lot of our requirements in the commercial EV space. We look forward to them landing.”
