Capral Aluminium, Australia’s largest manufacturer, extruder, and distributor of aluminium products, recently saw its first zero carbon emissions delivery made via freight partner Goldstar Transport. The Perth-based haulier brought Capral Aluminium products to Bull Motor Bodies in a new Fuso eCanter battery-electric truck, which also emits much less noise than a diesel truck. The first eCanter route was the latest in Capral’s commitment to the environment. The company recently introduced LocAL, a lower-carbon primary aluminium option to its locally manufactured extruded aluminium products.

“It is important for the environment,” says Capral Aluminium Industrial Solutions State Manager for Western Australia, Nigel Williamson. “It is in line with our Capral initiative to reduce emissions, and it represents a positive step forward.”

    Even More Firsts

The eCanter was the first electric truck in Australia to offer advanced active safety features, including an Advanced Emergency Braking System with pedestrian detection, Active Side Guard Assist, and a Lane Departure Warning System.

Fuso offers eCanters in 14 base variants in four weight classes with gross vehicle mass (GMV) options ranging from 4.5 to 8.55 tonnes (5 to 9.4 U.S. tons). There are six wheelbase lengths on offer, two cab sizes, and three battery pack options. The truck is powered by an eMotor that generates 129 kilowatts (173 horsepower) and 430 newton-metres (317 pounds-foot) of torque.

Depending on the battery pack option, the electric truck has a range of up to 200 kilometres (124 miles) per charge and is equipped with both 11- and 22-kW AC and 104-kW quick-charge DC charging ports. The eCanter also has electric power take-off to operate tipper bodies, cranes, fridge bodies, and more.

“Goldstar Transport is really excited to have the zero-emission Fuso eCanter as part of the fleet and work with companies like Capral who really want to make a difference,” says Goldstar Transport Managing Director Sean Carren.
