Victoria-based Lilydale Instant Lawn’s fleet has been nearly taken over by Scania with its latest addition of two new Scania 500 G Super prime movers.

The Scania trucks were chosen for their fuel efficiency and high praise from the company’s drivers. The fleet known has four G500s, four G540s, and one G360 8x4 twin-steer. Lilydale still has one non-Scania prime mover in its regular rotation and one other truck that operates as a spare.

    Scania’s Proven Worth

Lilydale General Manager Steve Cole says the company ran a demo of the Scania on its Bairnsdale B-double route, which produced a 50-litre (13-gallon) fuel savings on a return trip over the older non-Scania truck that typically runs the route. That result cemented the company’s opinion of Scania.

The Scania Super 500 G was tested again in comparison to the company’s G540 and bested that truck in fuel efficiency as well. Despite being rated for 40 fewer horsepower (29 kilowatts), the Super 500 G’s new generation Super 13-L 6-cylinder CBE engine technology gives it exceptional performance.

“That new 500 G truck would provide a fuel saving equal to around $500 per week on that Bairnsdale route,” Cole says. “The truck runs out to Bairnsdale unloaded but comes back with a 34-tonne payload. We weren’t planning on putting a new truck on that B-double route, but having seen the fuel results of the demonstrator, we have changed our minds.”

About The Scania Super 500 G

The Scania Super 13-L engine has the Scania Twin-SCR system for emissions control, 8% powertrain fuel savings, and dual overhead camshafts.

The cab is optimised for drivers with a larger display and improved graphics on the modular instrument panel. The intuitive controls ensure the operator’s attention stays on the road. Visibility is improved with the driver seat positioning, lower side windows, slim A-pillars, a slightly lowered dashboard, and a larger glass surface area.

Safety is further enhanced by strategically placed extra lighting and the option to add extra headlamp protection.
