GCH, part of Geelong and Coastal Hire, has grown rapidly since the inception of the hire side of the business in the 1980s, adding commercial waste operations to its site amenities offerings in the late 2000s. The Victoria-based company relies on Daf trucks to drive growth and recently purchased a new CF450 and an LF290.

“We have seen significant growth in the waste removal industry,” says Geelong and Coastal Hire General Manager Ben Friel. “The waste side of the business now represents about one dollar in three for us. Five years ago, it would have been a tiny fraction of that. We’ve seen considerable growth in that side of the business in the past decade. That growth saw us purchase our first vacuum truck. We have since bought three of these trucks, with a fourth coming soon.”

    Daf CF Trucks

The Daf CF range comes in 2-, 3-, and 4-axle configurations and is designed for concrete pumpers, waste, tippers, and tankers. Daf equips the CF with an MX-11 or MX-13 Euro 6-compliant Paccar engine with enhanced electronics, an optimised TraXon automated gearbox or Allison automatic gearbox, and Paccar high-efficiency rear axles. The result is higher torque at lower revs for better fuel efficiency.

The CF is loaded with safety features, including adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, a lane departure warning system, vehicle stability control, a side camera system, reverse warning, and front and rear disc brakes with EBS, ABS, and AEBS.

    The Daf LF

The LF range has a compact design and wheel angles that give it the tightest turning circle in its class. Sturdy galvanised steel bumpers and high-impact resistant Lexan headlight covers protect the vehicle from damage. The LF comes with Daf’s Driver Performance Assistant technology, which provides tips for fuel economy and gear change optimisation.

The truck is powered by a Paccar PX-7 295-horsepower (217-kilowatt) Euro 6 engine and the ZF AS Tronic 6-speed automated gearbox. The ZF Ecolite 6-speed manual, ZF Ecomid 9-speed manual, ZF AS Tronic 12-speed automated, and Allison 5-speed automatic gearboxes are also available as options.
