Ford Australia is excited to announce it is expanding its Transit Custom offering in Australia with the addition of the unique, all-wheel-drive Transit Custom Trail.

With all-paw traction, the Transit Custom Trail brings improved capability to the already versatile Transit Custom range which includes the workhorse Trend, stylish Sport, and adaptable Double Cab.

Last year was the most successful on record for Transit Custom sales, and 2025 looks to build on that trajectory with the exciting addition of the Trail variant which will give customers an even greater range of van choices to suit their business and recreational needs.

“The Ford Transit Custom Trail offers a blend of striking design, comfort, versatility, and capability that makes it an excellent choice for both business and recreational use,” said Anna Hercan, product and retail marketing manager, vans. “Its bold and rugged exterior design is a head-turning proposition, and the practicality of a long-wheelbase van paired with a capable AWD drivetrain ensures that the Trail will cater to a wide range of needs, from work-related tasks to leisure and sporting activities.”

Transit Custom Trail will arrive in Australia with an MLP of $61,990 and comes standard with a generous suite of features in a single LWB specification that builds upon what is seen in Trend variants.

The engine and gearbox remain unchanged from the rest of the diesel-powered Transit Custom range, with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder which produces 125kW and 390Nm paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

For those with a sense of adventure who require the impressive load-lugging ability of a van, the Transit Custom Trail is fitted with a permanent all-wheel-drive system as standard (unlike the front-wheel-drive variants). The benefits of the all-paw traction aren’t purely limited to those who want to leave the bitumen, with the improved roadholding providing increased confidence in all low-grip situations.

Transit Custom Trail’s AWD is an active system, which means it not only responds to wheel slip between the front and rear axles but also can anticipate wheel slip and transfer torque to the rear wheels before slip occurs. The electronically controlled clutch in the rear axle can provide traction like a locked 4x4 system without binding in turns.

Distinguishing the Trail from the rest of the Transit Custom lineup is a range of exterior changes giving a bold and rugged appearance. These include a unique Trail grille and skid plates, black wheel arch mouldings and side strips, silver-painted rocker trim, LED headlamps and daytime running lights, unique 16-inch Trail twin-spoke alloy wheels finished in matte black, underbody protection, and yellow exterior decals.

While based on the Transit Custom Trend, there are some spec changes inside the Transit Custom Trail’s cabin, including artificial leather seat trim that features a unique Trail embossing on the driver’s seat with yellow box stitching on all three seats. Dual passenger seats come fitted as standard, but a single passenger seat is available as a $150 option.

All the active and safety features that make the Transit Custom—which in 2024 achieved ANCAP’s highest commercial van medallion grading, “Platinum,” with a score of 96%--remain fitted to the Trail, giving owners peace of mind when on the road and exploring the great outdoors.

Frozen White is the standard exterior colour for Transit Custom Trail, with four Prestige Paint choices available as a $700 option: Agate Black Metallic, Grey Matter, Magnetic, and Moondust Silver.

Other options available for the Transit Custom Trail include a Rear Liftgate ($700) and Dual Side Load Doors ($1000).

First arrivals of the MY25.75 Transit Custom Trail are expected in Q4, 2025. Full detailed specifications of the Transit Custom Trail will be released closer to local arrivals.
