Australian cities have seen a boom in high-rise, high-density properties for residential and commercial use in recent years. This has been a challenge for the waste industry as it strives to meet national, state, and local government initiatives aimed at creating a Circular Waste Economy, as traditional waste trucks struggle to manoeuvre tight inner-city areas.

Isuzu’s new narrow, low-cab, compact NKR 65/45-150 is designed for challenging urban use and will be on display at the ReGen Expo, Conference, and Product Showcase, taking place from 23rd to 24th July at the Sydney International Convention Centre.

About The Compact City Slicker NKR

The smallest model in the new N Series range, the NKR 65/45-150 has a width of 1,695 millimetres (66.7 inches) and a height of 1,990 mm (78.3 in.). It comes in wheelbase options of 2,490, 2,760, and 3,360 mm (98, 108.6, and 132 in.) to handle a range of urban waste collection needs. It has an 11.5-metre (37.7-foot) kerb-to-kerb turning circle diameter, which allows it to access dead-end lanes and loading bays.

The truck is powered by a 3.0-litre, 4-cylinder Isuzu 4JZ1-TCS power plant, which produces 110 kilowatts (147.5 horsepower) at 2,800 rpm and has a torque of 375 newton-metres (277 pounds-foot). The 9-speed MYR-9S dual-clutch automated manual transmission comes standard with an optional 6-speed manual transmission also available.

To keep drivers safe on the road, the NKR is packed with intelligent safety features, including an intersection warning system, advanced intersection emergency braking, traffic movement warning, and full-speed adaptive cruise control with traffic sign recognition.

“The NKR is the perfect inner-city dweller with its narrow cab allowing easy egress in and out of the vehicle in tight places, plus the sub 2-metre roof line means it can access a large number of underground carparks and loading docks,” said Isuzu Australia Limited’s (IAL) Product Manager – Light Duty, Rajeev Pillai. “From the cabin design to the myriad of active and passive safety systems, this model has been developed specially to allow for safe and efficient operation in high-density locations.”
