Iveco recently rolled out its next-generation Eurocargo range in Australia, pitching an enhanced combination of power, driver comfort, active safety features, and lower running costs. All of the above are welcome in the medium-duty truck segment.

The Eurocargo ML140 To ML180 Lineup

The latest Eurocargo family has five models: the ML140, ML160, and ML180, plus the ML150 4x4 and ML150 4x2 Dual Cab, which has seating for seven, including the driver.

The 4x2 models span 14 to 18 tonnes (15.4 to 19.8 U.S. tons) of gross vehicle mass (GVM). To accommodate heavier loads, which seem to occur more frequently due to weight increases in freight, materials, and equipment, the trucks have gross combined mass (GCM) figures ranging from 17.5 t to 28 t (19.3 to 30.9 U.S. t), depending on model and transmission.

Powertrain Upgrades: Tector 7 Goes Standard

A revised Tector 7 6-cylinder engine package now comes standard in Eurocargo trucks, with two power output levels:

    • ML140: 207 kilowatts (278 horsepower) and 1,000 newton-metres (737 pounds-foot)
    • ML150 / ML160 / ML180: 235 kW (315 HP) and 1,100 Nm (811 lbf-ft)

The updated motors meet the Euro 6 (Step E) emissions standard using Iveco’s patented selective catalytic reduction (HI-SCR).

Buyers of 4x2 models can choose a standard ZF 8-speed automatic transmission or an optional Allison 6-speed auto for high-torque/low-speed applications.

    Eurocargo Fuel-Saving Tech

Iveco gave the new-generation Eurocargo family economy features from its heavier S-Way line, including:

    • Auto idle cut-off after five minutes under set conditions
    • Eco Roll: ZF-equipped models shift to neutral to reduce drag and coast
    • Eco Mode: optimised shift and power delivery for efficiency

Inside, the Eurocargo has a 10-inch digital cluster, a new steering wheel with engine start/stop and proximity key, and a 7-in. multimedia screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. (Photo courtesy of Iveco.)

    Eurocargo Safety & Cab Advancements

Standard safety tech is extensive in the new Eurocargo range, including Iveco’s advanced emergency braking system (AEBS), adaptive cruise control (ACC), lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, reversing camera, driver drowsiness alert, and moving-off information (urban vulnerable road user [VRU] support). (Note that the AEBS, ACC, and Electronic Stability Program (ESP) features aren’t available on the 4x4.)

Inside, the Eurocargo gets a modernised workplace with a 10-inch digital cluster, a new steering wheel with engine start/stop and proximity key, a 7-in. multimedia screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Iveco On telematics readiness.

    A ‘Tipper Pack’ Eurocargo & A Tougher 4x4

For tippers, Iveco offers an ML140 Tipper Pack model with a 4,185-mm (164.7-in.) wheelbase, 22-t (24.3-U.S.-t) GCM, a reinforced suspension, rear differential lock, and easy-clean cab trim.

The ML150 4x4 keeps its reputation as a go-anywhere platform with front/centre/rear diff locks, strong approach and ramp angles, a 15-t (16.5-U.S.-t) GVM, and a 19-t (20.9-U.S.-t) GCM.

Iveco Eurocargo Warranty: A Dealer-Friendly Closer

The new Eurocargo range is backed by a 5-year/300,000-km (186,400-mile) warranty, whichever comes first. Extended warranty options up to 5 years/600,000 km (372,800 mi) are available, plus maintenance and repair agreements.
