    About Curtainsider Trucks

    Hino 500 FM2632 Curtainsider Truck

A curtainsider truck, or tautliner, has a cargo box with open sides that are covered by a stretched tarpaulin while in transit. The side curtains can be unbuckled and drawn aside to allow forklift trucks to easily load and unload specific portions of a load or for simultaneous loading and unloading from both sides of the truck. Curtainside trucks are often used for deliveries, home removal, and other applications.

    Characteristics

Curtainsider trucks are often sold by how many pallets they can hold, such as six or 14. The cargo area may have a timber deck or a chequer plate floor and a hard ceiling. Some have a fiberglass nose cone in the front above the cabin for better aerodynamics.

A curtainside cargo body may have rear barn doors or a roll-up door in the back. Some powered lift gates or tailgate lifters act as a rear door when closed.

    Load Restraints & Hanging Gates

Many curtainsiders keep their cargo items in place using load binders, load restraint curtains, or removable divider gates. The cargo may be protected from falling through the side curtains by hanging gates, which are movable, rail-mounted side gates that are suspended from above for safety and ease of handling.
