Man New Truck Generation TGL, TGM, TGS & TGX Enter New Zealand Market
Man Truck & Bus has introduced its new Truck Generation (TG) TGL, TGM, TGS, and TGX truck ranges to the New Zealand market through importer and distributor Penske New Zealand. Penske New Zealand General Manager Brent Warner says eight cabin configurations are now available, including a crew cab with seating for up to seven passengers and a “super spacious” GX cab with 2.44-metre (8-foot) outer width. Engine options include Euro 6-compliant Man D08, D15, D26, and D38 power plants, with rated power ranging from 220 to 640 horsepower (164 to 477 kilowatts).
“We are thrilled to welcome the all-new Man truck generation to the New Zealand market and introduce our customers to this superior portfolio,” Warner says. “Close attention has been paid to ensuring the specifications are ideally suited to our New Zealand conditions, including tyre and diff ratio selections to optimise performance and economy for our unique terrain. We’re excited to be offering for the first time, a downline factory 8x4 model specifically for New Zealand, too.”
The TG Lineup
Man introduced the new TG in 2020 after having spent more than 167,000 working hours on the design. The manufacturer says the TG is the first truck generation it has created from the ground up in 20 years. The flagship TGX, which is designed for heavy-duty, long-haul transport, was named the 2021 International Truck of the Year and won an IF Design award, German Design award, and Red Dot Design award. The TGS is targeted at heavy-duty construction, distribution, and municipal service work, while the TGL and TGM are built for distribution transport.
Driver-Friendly Design
Customers can look forward to a host of modern in-cab features, including ergonomically designed seating and sleeping areas, that result in a safer, more comfortable experience. For starters, the multifunction steering wheel puts vital truck functions within quick reach and can fold to a horizontal position when the truck is stopped to make entering and existing the cab easier. The trucks’ advanced infotainment system includes navigation, radio, video, and phone functionality that drivers control with Man’s SmartSelect Navigator jog dial.
There’s plenty of driver assistance tech onboard, starting with Adaptive Cruise Control, which uses independent radar and camera sensor systems to control speed while maintaining a constant distance to forward vehicles. An Emergency Brake Assist system audibly warns the driver of emergency braking situations and initiates braking if the driver fails to react. In addition, the Lane Departure Warning system provides an audible warning when the truck unintentionally leaves the correct lane, while Lane Return Assist actively steers the vehicle back into the correct lane.
