After 30 years away, Ford’s F-150 range is returning to Australia. The right-hand drive F-150 is the product of extensive re-engineering by Ford Australia and RMA Automotive, and will be available in XLT and Lariat trims, as well as in short wheelbase (SWB) and long wheelbase (LWB) body styles.

“The F-150 is perfect for those who want to explore our amazing country in luxury and comfort,” says Ford Australia President and CEO Andrew Birkic. “The addition of this icon to our local showrooms alongside the incredibly popular Ranger means Australian customers now have two uncompromising utes to choose from. Thanks to its 4.5-tonne towing ability, the F-150 ensures Aussies can go anywhere, with almost anything, at any time.”

    Common Features

Ford Australia equips the F-150 range with a 3.5-litre, 400-horsepower (298-kilowatt) EcoBoost Twin-Turbo V6 petrol engine that generates 678 newton-metres (500 pounds-foot) of torque. Both the XLT and Lariat trims are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The new F-150 range is offered in a 4x4 Crew Cab configuration, no matter if you select the SWB (3.7 metres; 12.1 feet) or LWB (4 m; 13.1 ft) option. The SWB F-150 has a 1.7-m (5.5-ft) styleside box, and the LWB F-150 has a 2-m (6.5-ft) styleside box.

    F-150 XLT

With 51-centimetre (20-inch) machined-aluminium wheels, a tailgate that functions as a step or work surface, and a Tough Bed spray-in bedliner, the F-150 XLT trim delivers what Ford Australia calls “no-nonsense ruggedness.” Ford driver assistance technology, such as automatic emergency braking, a rear-view camera, rear parking sensors, and Ford Pro Trailer Backup Assist are onboard to increase safety and functionality. Satellite navigation, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, and a fold-out office workspace in the cab round out of amenities.

    F-150 Lariat

Ford Australia’s new flagship, the F-150 Lariat, comes with a variety of luxury additions you won’t find on the XLT trim. The Lariat showcases the full chrome appearance package, with highly polished chrome additions on the belt moldings, door handles, mirror scalps, running boards, and tow hooks. Ford Australia also equips the Lariat with a powered, twin-panel moonroof and LED headlights, fog lights, and taillamps. Inside the crew cab, the F-150 Lariat includes leather-accented seats, with heated and cooled front seats and heated back seats.
