“They’re fantastic. I couldn’t speak highly enough of them,” says Nyanda Excavations Operations Manager Damien Caldaia of the new DAF CF trucks. “The DAFs far exceed driver comfort and reliability for us.” (Photo courtesy of DAF.)

Nyanda Excavations, an independently owned and operated excavating and demolition contractor based in Queensland, has taken delivery of four new Daf CF trucks. The CF530 and three CF450 models replaced Japanese trucks in Nyanda’s fleet in its southeast Queensland and Northern New South Wales operations.

“They’re fantastic. I couldn’t speak highly enough of them,” says Nyanda Excavations Operations Manager Damien Caldaia. “The Dafs far exceed driver comfort and reliability for us. We started out with a hook bin truck and then we decided to replace the remaining Japanese trucks in the fleet as they were inching closer to their replacement dates.”

    Nyanda’s Daf Prime Movers

The Daf CF530 and one of the CF450s are sleeper cabs that Nyanda uses to tow its excavation machines. “We deliver all our machines on our tri-axle float trailers so they’re often being used for that as well as for our tipper work,” Caldaia says. “They travel anywhere from northern NSW through to Gladstone in Queensland, so they get to tour around a little bit.”

The other two Daf CF450s are day cabs. One is outfitted as a water truck, while the other is a twin-steer model with the aforementioned hook bin. Nyanda has one more water truck to replace in the near future.

“We’ll definitely be replacing that, and it will be with another Daf,” Caldaia said. “These new ones have been amazing.”

    The Daf CF Range

Daf produces CF trucks as prime movers as well as chassis suitable for upfits to serve as tippers, tankers, and concrete pumpers. The CF comes with two to four axles in 4x2, 6x2, 6x4, 8x4, and 8x4 low-tare configurations with LED headlights and tail lamps. The versatile, fuel-efficient CF model is available with a day cab, sleeper cab, or roomy Space Cab.

Euro 6-compliant engine options for the Daf CF include parent company PACCAR’s MX-11 and MX-13 6-cylinders, which are available in power levels of 340 to 530 horsepower (250 to 390 kilowatts). Transmission choices include ZF TraXon 12- or 16-speed automated gearboxes as well as the Allison 3200 6-speed automatic.

Safety and assistance technologies available in the CF include a blind-side camera system, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, vehicle stability control, and front and rear disc brakes including antilock and advanced emergency braking systems.
